The R1 had both options

the R2 now has a GTX285 GPU option as well

I got that. Just it used to be that standard is an nVidia GPU with option AMD, and now kinda reverse

NVIDIA has had a few issues as we all know.

But I still would not get the ATI crap - mostly due to the lack of mobile GPU drivers and support.

AMD can be stingy on notebook GPUs drivers for sure but I can see their position on the support part - notebook manufacturers should be in charge of integrating the changes.

M17xR2 was a big FAIL IMO. I expect the same until proven otherwise with the R3.

Don't know how to believe it since the Desktop version of the new AMD Graphic Card is running behind schedule at the moment.

They need to hire some out-sourced designers first

I kinda like the m11x design, it's different in its small design comparing to others brands in the same category. They could make it thinner?

R3 will need to have an AMD card with an AMD CPU. I'm tired of nVidia screwing up the drivers and then not supporting them.

I heard the other way around as well - AMD not having enough driver to go around.

cheers ...

It's so so. I do agree it's time for a redesign, it probably will be the R4 which will have the resign, i say i don't jump on the R3 because the R4 or newer name will come out right around the corner i just know it.

For me, if it's not Sandy Bridge based, I'll pass.

And if it is Sandy Bridge, where are the 470M's or the long rumoured 485M? Maybe they are saving the new chip to compete with the 6xxx series, but the 470M is available now.

Anyway, on the brink of 2011, SB, USB 3 and 470M SLI would be "minimum" standards to expect. And that rocker switch on the mousepad comes off so "cheap". Would dual switches really break the bank?

We'll see what comes...
