Asus U30JC wireless problems

Thread Starter
I just purchased my second Asus, this time the mobile Asus U30JC. Everything was working sort of okay, the mouse pad is a bit messed up but the wireless was working fine.

The last few days, the wireless won't turn on, i.e. I select FN+F2 and the wifi symbol is faded and x'd out. In the lower right corner, the wirless symbol has an X.

I'm not sure what drivers I should update since the wireless radio seems to be turned off, but I can't seem to enable it through the Intel utility. I've restarted the system many times.

In the device utility, the wireless driver seems to be the:

Intel(R) 1000 WiFi Wireless LAN Driver

Thanks in advance.

Did you try to enable it via Device Manager? If that doesn't work, try a new driver. Intel has drivers available on their website.

Yep, can't seem to enable anything in the device manager, i.e. no option to enable the wireless radio. I did update the intel drivers and it says no wireless adapter found.

Does the U30Jc have an external (physical) wireless switch? If so, did you check to make sure that was in the correct position?

I just looked at a couple images and it does appear to have a physical switch on the front left. I couldn't find any detailed info on it, but it's in the same place as my old Toshiba, so I'm assuming it's for the wifi

I have also a U30JC and I'm having the same problem, the laptop has a switch up front but that isn't the problem I guess. It doesn't detect the wireless card and not even the light on the front that indicates the wireless is turned on...I unistalled the wireless console and it started working but a few days later stop working again...anyone that found a good solution please post!

Thanks!

I have had the same problem (just today) when I turned off the wireless switch in the front (off is to the left) since I was on a plane. When trying to turn it back on, the wireless icon shows up but is grayed out.

Reading this thread, I got this solution to work:

-Have the switch back to the right
-Go to Device Manager (Start>Computer>"right click">Properties
-Disable wireless adapter (mine is an Atheros)
-Enable wireless adapter
-Now Fn+F2 button works with Icon not grayed out
-Make sure it is enabled
-Restart computer

I'm running Windows 7 Pro. Not sure if it is hardware or driver related. I think it is driver related, but I have the latest release.

Hope this helps!

Interesting work around. ASUS needs to look into this - firmware update for the wifi device?

cheers ...

Nice to hear - do you happen to have a link to the driver?

cheers ...
