Processor : Intel Core i7 Processor-840QM(1.86GHz,8MB cache)
Display : 17in WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 - Beyond HD (1200p) - RGB LED
Memory : 8192MB (2x4096) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Hard Drive : 320GB (2x160GB) Free Fall Sensor Raid 0 "Stripe"(7200RPM) Dual HDD
Graphics : Dual CrossFire 1GB ATI GDDR5 Mobility Radeon HD 5870

So I got this computer yesterday and I ran 3dmark06 right from the start and I landed at 16.000 points.
I am now wondering if this seems reasonable and if possible what drivers you would recommend for the graphics cards.

Nothing is overclocked, but I am interested in hearing about your recommendations.

Thanks
Tommy

Hmm the M17 I had for 2 days before returning it, had a i7 720 with 1 5870 and it hit a 14,100 so I'd imagine thats most likely about normal considering. I'll let you know im getting another m17 with dual 5870s, I'm thinking it should hit a 18k or so but who knows?

Oh, are you going to overclock it to reach that?
Cause otherwise it seems we have the same except the processor, did you also have 8gb ram?
Cause if you are hitting 18k with xfire 5870 cards, I think I should go just a little higher since I have the 840qm processor.
Have to play around some more to present an update here.

NWGuru has a pretty good thread for the benches, you might want to break his top scores

thanks qhn,

I think those scores will be hard to brake since I do not have the extreme processor, "only 840qm".
you guys all seem so knowledgeable about AW and their setups, so I was hoping you could give me a reasonable score based on my config + that it is not overclocked.

I mean I've searched all over for benchmark results and almost everyone has the 930x processor, and they are all 22k+.
Makes me wonder if you can squeeze out 6k ish more just on the processor change (and some OC'ing on top of that)

Thanks again for the input guys, I'm just "newly-wed" with my Alienware so I want to make sure I am getting the most out of it, cause two years ago when I bought my XPS dell sent it with drivers that did not support SLI-mode, want to make sure I don't have drivers that are not operating at max potential.

16.000 points right of the bag is pretty good and consistent to what I saw from a few m17x at work. With some simple tweaks like cleaning up startup process and services and updating drivers and OS you should see jump close to 18.000 easily. This was done without any overclocking.

cheers ...
