Ok as i posted on here earlier this month, my 512mb ati mobility 3870 died in my m17. I havnt yet bought a replacement card as finding one cheap enough to fit my budget has been pretty tuff till now. But anyways here are my options with current prices. What I am asking for is your guys' opinion on which card will give me the best gaming performance for the price.

ATI HD 4650 1gb - 199.00
Nvida GF 9600m GT - 198.00
ATI HD 3650 1gb - 219.99
nvidia 9800m gts 1gb -375.00
Nvida 160m gtx 512mb - 345.00

each of the cards listed above either match my dead card's MXM 2.0 pin design or for the 2.1s listed, the pin design matches the slot design the card goes into in my m17.

There is also a 280m GTX 1gb listing on ebay for 535.00. While a little higher than id like to go, I do know the 280m gtx is more of a powerhouse than any of the above listed, but i was told the 280m GTX was belived to not have been made in a 2.0/2.1 design. below is the link to the ebay listing for you guys to check out and see what you think.

Thanks in advance. And thanks to those of you who tried to help me before regaurding which cards my computer can use!

The ATI 4650 will give you the most performance per dollar. The Nvidia 9800M & 160M are more powerful, but their added expense is greater than their added performance.

Also, you are correct that the Nvidia 280M is only MXM 3.0

Take a look at the current configuration on Dell site for your model. This will tell you the safest (ha ha) highest CPU you can go.

cheers ...

well it seems that i am unable to find this info, i guess im not to swift at these things. But anyways my current cpu is

Intel 2.4ghz P8600 3M M17

i also found a great deal on 2 4gb ram sticks to be able to upgrade to 8gb. I know a lot of people say 4gb is plenty, but its from a friend who is upgrading to faster ram so I was wondering if it was worth it. Price hasnt quite been set yet but i belive i can get em for around 150 from what has been said so far.

but anyways ill keep looking on dells sight.

I believe that the m17 can support up to QX9300 CPU. As far as 8GB concerns it all depends on what you are doing. Good read here.
