Asus repair manuals

Hello,
as per subject: does anyone know where to find repair manuals for asus notebooks? I had no luck on the manufacturer's site or elsewhere.

Any hint will be appreciated!

We can try with individual models, but in general as a repository it will be hard to find them for free.

cheers ...

I'm looking for the one for the X51RL model.
Are they on sale somewhere?

You can try this link and use it as reference to your model. If it works out, if you have time share with us your personal dis-assembly steps.

Thanks, I saw that link earlier today, but I'd rather not do this blind (I normally end up with broken plastic locks).

Do you have any idea if such manuals are sold somewhere?

If you search online, there are sites that offer to get you a service guide for a fee. It is not always 100%.

There is not so much about going blind on taking a notebook apart, really. That's how I do with all my ASUS, and others. They all involve removing (in the order where apply) battery, ram, hard drive wireless card, the bottom screws, power bezel panel, hinges, LCD, keyboard, optical drive and just pop the casing off.

Search our forum for disassembly you'll get loads of personal tips.

Thanks, I'll proceed with caution.

BTW, I wanted to have a look at it because the led in the wifi button stopped
working long ago; do you have any idea what it might be due to?
I'm asking because I've never heard about LEDs failing...

LED failing but wireless still working? If so then the switch might be faulty. I personally would not be bother with it (if that is to be the case), since fixing it would require some parts that might be hard to get.

Button and wireless both work. I was half-hoping for a bad
solder joint.

Are LEDs controlled via GPIO lines usually?

It is purely hardware for the Wifi switch I am afraid. Solder joint? a possibility

I wouldn't be so sure. I don't know about this Asus model, but for the previous HP laptop I owned, I had to tinker quite a bit with the driver settings under linux to make the led turn on (the button still worked normally as rfkill).

I'll let you know anyway.
