CrossfireX vs SLI

Ok I am a bit confused on this. The other m17x I had, it had crossfirex enabled but only had 1 video card. The next one I am getting is a m17x with sli 5870s, however when I go to the alienware site they no longer have the SLI vs available just 5870 or crossfirex?

SLI and Crossfire are competing terms for the same type of technology (multiple graphics cards working together in one system). SLI is only found on Nvidia cards and Crossfire is only found on AMD cards. Since the 5870 is an AMD graphics card, having multiple 5870s in one computer uses Crossfire, not SLI.

I guess that is where im confused...The guy I'm buying this from, It said enable crossfire, when you disabled it, it did not show 2 video cards...I gave him the laptop back because there was some issue with it, he said he sent it in and had the motherboard, and 2 video cards added....So did it already have 2 and he's jerking my chain?

I would not think that it would give you an option to enable or disable crossfire unless the system had the multiple video cards needed to use it, but since I have not used a multiple graphics card computer myself, I can't tell you absolutely.

If your getting 14k with dual 5870s something is seriously wrong. Speaking with the guy yesterday he showed me the dual video cards listed in which it did not show that before. So I'm assuming it should score between 19k and 22k.

Those higher scores are from extreme procs that have been OC'ed. Try running Vantage instead and compare just the GPU score. The 06 score will very greatly based on processor and specifically with the ATI cards it has an even greater influence.
