Confused on Benchmarks

Ok so I finally hit the bullet and purchased a m17x. Had my girl back home ship it out to me in Afghan...

Basic config with i7 720, dual 5870s, blue ray, 4 gigs ram, 500gb hard drive and the wuxga screen.

However I'm looking at benchmarks and according to notebookcheck review on 3dmark vantage the 280m sli is out performing it? Why bother going with higher end cards if they perform less?

Just my thoughts review is at:

I would take all benchmarks with a grain of salt

From your link ...

The gaming performance of the CF solution should be sufficient for all current games (2009-2010) in high resolution and high detail settings (mostly with AA activated). Compared to a GeForce GTX 285M SLI, the 5870 CF should be faster (altough the SLI support by Nvidia is known to be a little bit better).
This is about the 285M SLI comparison. Plus your system is DX 11 ready with the CF whereas the 280M SLI is a no no. So leave it be, and enjoy your comp

Might be a fluke. Here on NBF we have our own benchmarking system.

5870s are marking at 19,291 while 280m is 7000s

Thanks guys, I thought something was off..Doesn't make sense to spend 3k on a top end gaming machine just to find out models from 2 years ago are out performing it.
