Crossfire and computer lag

Hey i thought I saw a thread on this already but i cant seem to find it.

Anyways, i just got my dual ATI 3870s in the mail, and got them installed. Device manager shows 2 cards, and the ATI catalyst shows ATI 3879x2 in the display options.

My question is is the crossfire working? Before in catalyst there was a crossfire option but the diagnostic said the cable was not correct properly. I shut the computer down. switched the cable around and got the same thing. So i reinstalled the drivrs from ATI. now i dont even see the crossfire option, and my computer is super laggy and memory usuage is hovering around 60%

So my question is were did the crossfire option go, and how do I fix the laggyness. I am currently trying to download the new bios that is on this site and then gonna make my way to alienware to reinstall all the drivers they have for my machine.

Any help is appreciated.

I am not 100 % sure, but I think you need to use the Dell drivers and I know I read something about havuing to use mobility Driver Mod Tool for ATI drivers as well.

What I am not sure about is if you need to use the Mobility Mod Tool on the dell drivers or just the stock ATI ones.

we'll see what others have to say

BTW what is the config of the laptop your using with these cards

OK kool i will try the dell drivers as well. as this computer sets it is an alienware m17 with an intel core 2 duo P8600 2.4ghz. 3gb of ram. and the dual ati 3870s that are suppose to be in crossfire but im am unsure if they are. like i said i cant even find the option to turn crossfire on and off.

I dont know if this will help, but in the ATI catalyst control center in information center, under graphics hardware, it list my cards as Primary and Linked. Which sounds like crossfire is working, but I cannot find any option for crossfire like it says in the help links.

Yeah just did that and at the bottom of the first tab, it says crossfired enabled, x2 gpus so i guess that means it working. BTW how do you actually get a score from that program

it's not a benchmarking tool, only reports on GPU hardware

If you want benchmarks try 3DMark06, 3dmark vantage,

FRAPS for in game Frames per second results

lol, i feel so foolish sometimes. But anyways thanks for the info on the benchmark programs. BTW do u think the crossfired enabled x2 GPUs means that my crossfire is actually working??

it should be working if GPUz reports it there, but GPU drivers can do funnny things, to try running some benchmarks and see how different drivers change the results
