Comparing screens from current E1705 to XPS17 still in production

I have the UltraSharp True Life Wide-screen WUXGA on my current E1705. My XPS 17 is currently in production with a 17.3 in HD+ WLED TL (1600x900)
I didn't see an option to upgrade as I was looking online (all the while speaking with a rep who was putting the order together for me.)I think I still have time to upgrade my order though I am sure my EDD will be delayed.
Can anyone help me with comparing these screens?
TIA

the E1705 screen wasa CFFL type display - meaning it used two light bulbs to light up the screen.

Thwe WLED screen uses LED lights to light up the screen, which tend to do a better job overall, and use less power - improving battery life.

The WLED screen should be a brighter screen, and should not have problems like leakage as the older CCFL screens did at times.

Generally it should be a better screen over all, and the only upgrade to the XPS 17 screen if available would be a RGB LED screen.

Thanks for the most excellent and thorough info!!

My Dell sales rep is telling me that 900p is the highest resolution available for the XPS 17 yet I am reading on another forum that there is 1920x1080p but they aren't being offered (possibly due to a shortage caused by a replacement program on sxps 16 that were originally configured with a 1080p...or something like that. Evil angry chatter or something to it? )

Individual also said he had a replacement XPS 17 in the works and several Dell reps confirmed the screen was 1080p

I give up (rare for me!) Dell swears up and down the 1080P isn't available for the XPS 17, I have to get back to work....

I meant as Which Country USA I guess.

Odd enough some options are not available in some countries, at times due to supply issues.

Check other Dell sites and see if it is an option there.

Good news...I can't wait. My current video card can't handle Adobe CS5 so I haven't been able to play with the 3D aspects of PS Extended. I check my order status more than I want to admit.

True, I do (check order status) as well when ordering something. Keep forgetting their business days mean different than mine

cheers ...
