Cannot Copy File The PAth is Too Deep

i have two winxp pro pc that cannot copy or move files over the LAN. they
will copy or move files under about 60kb but anything over gets the cannot
copy file the path is too deep. they can copy to other pc on the network. if
i connect using a cross over cable and wireless connect to send files
between the two it will work with any size file. they both see each other on
the lan and can map to each other and ping each other.

update firmware on the router. If already at the newest version, check with the vendor to see if it is an issue with the firmware.

if it is a router issue should it also happen when copying/moving files to other computers on the lan also? i should have rebooted the router that seems to have to working again. i guess going about 6 months without it being rebooted is
too long

Same problem at our school

I teach at a junior high school and we have been promoting our students to organize their work into multiple files. One of our students managed to organize one of their assignments so deep in a series of files that they could not save to the file or copy it.

I cannot remember what our network's limit is, but we have now warned the students not to bury files too deep.

my files were not buried too deep the were like c:\something same thing on the pc trying to copy too. it would work if file was under about 60kb just not over. would work wireless, using a cross over cable, and transfering to other pcs on the network just not two of them. my issue was the router did not like going about 6 months without a reboot once it got rebooted everything started working normal again

i'm getting the same problem, when i try to trasfer files across my LAN it will stop after about 10mb and usually come up with the error path too deep . i do have a router, but that isnt the problem. i think it may be a virus because recently several programs have been the cause of major system crashes and sometimes i can't even logon (says that XP hasnt been activated)
