Acer 5315 Died :(

My Acer Aspire 5315, of which I used last night with no problem, would not turn on (no orange/green lights on the front, no response from power button), NOTHING this morning. I put it to sleep last night before I went to bed, as I always do. Ive never had any problems like this before.

I removed the battery and tried - nothing.

I swapped AC Adapters (I always have a spare!) - nothing.

Again, the lights arent on in the front that indicate battery charging or power with either AC adapter. When I press the power button, nothing happens - no fans, no beeps, nothing.

Any suggestions?

Try first resetting ram modules, drive and CMOS.

Devastating. CMOS would be my first suggestion though.

Steve, when you say that, do you mean resetting it?

Or changing the CMOS battery?

One year old model, the CMOS is usually still good. Resetting = remove it and put it back

Haha...thanks.

I actually bought it used in April 2009. But alas, you're totally right...probably too soon for the battery to go bad.

So you mean remove the CMOS battery and then re-install it? Is it hard to get to the CMOS battery on the 5315?

Not really, but it does require taking the notebook apart

We have stickies in the section with dis-assembly guides.

Try a hard reset....remove from a/c source, remove battery.....hold down power button for 30 secs or a little longer, replace battery and a/c power and give it a shot.....just out of curiosity sake, try it without the battery after you have tried the above

Well folks, I want to thank the 'good karma' of the forum for this one

Got home from college after my exam (Finance, nonetheless, and yes it sucked..lol). Started working on the Acer.

I did the 'hard reset'. No difference. Brought the laptop downstairs to start Hari-Kari on it. First thing I did was remove the HD cover to start removing all of the internals and get to the motherboard.

Well guess what?!?! Turns out my HD slid out of the connector about an eight of an inch. When I upgraded the HD almost 2 years ago, I never tightened the HD cover (which the screws to the cover also hold in the HD). Turns out, the screws loosened over time, and then allowed the HD to shift in its caddy.

I pushed the HD back in, re-installed the battery and SHA-ZAAAAAM!! Im on it right now

So Im certain some member will search the forums with a similar problem - remember to KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) and dont be like me - trying to price out new mobo's and DC adapters. Start with the small things. It worked out in my case
