TE2000 Screen split

My TE2000 sometimes exhibit a split of the screen in which the upper portion is fine and the bottom half shows as vertical color strips..This come and goes...if I hit it with my fingers sometimes it goes away and then when I move it around it comes back.....

I replaced my original screen that was damaged with a used one from ebay a few years ago but have not use it that much since....It seems as if the screen itself is ok....I suspect that maybe the inverter could be the problem.....I removed the screen bessel and checked the inverter connections and seemed fine.

Could this symptom be related to the inverter wanting to go away....This is an old laptop.....

Anyone with this problem that may have solve it...

Input is appreciatted.....

Never hurt to replace the inverter first since it is cheap and easy to do. What about the connecting LCD cable? Is it well seated and no sign of damage?

cheers ...

This may be of some benefit

You might also try plugging in an external monitor to see if the problem is still there...

Are you referring to the cable connection to the motherboard? If so, I think it is ok, although I will double check...I just dismantled the upper section of the laptop and disconnected and connected this cable back....

The split of the screen is along the horizontal about two thrids up the screen....its a near perfect split line...that's why I thought the inverter may be suspect....although I changed the screen a few years ago (for a used one from ebay) I re-used the inverter. So its probably the original one in the laptop (from 2002!!!). The laptop I also bought used on ebay several years ago so that I can't tell for sure.....

I found a new inverter on ebay for less than $10 so I will probable go for that....

It's not like I cannot buy a new laptop...I am just a little fond of this one since I have change a few parts already (mobo, screen, memory) and it refuses to die.

saugen48, thks for the link...its very informative...I think I might have seen and used it before but its always great to come back to it for the screen shots, etc.....

BTW, I got a used power supply from ebay that I mentioned in another post to replace mine. Seem to be working fine....

thks....

The connector from the back of the LCD can be knocked loose during replacement - it's the flat cable and I would use an electricity tape just o hold the thing in place after connecting it.

cheers ...

Just checked it...looked fine....I will put back again and test it...if the problem persists I will probably go for the new inverter to see how it goes....
