touch pad gone loco

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545. I recently ( 2 days ago) installed a new hard drive. Now my cursor jumps any where it has a mind to, any where. It will jump from "message" area of e-mail to "title".
In word it will jump any where it wants. Sometimes I have to sit and search for just to be I didn't type something where it wasn't supposed to be typed.
Does anyone have an idea for me to fix this issue. It is maddening. In this short thread the cursor jumped around 17 times.
Thank you
jo

Search around for a different driver for your touchpad.

Thank you... not sure how do that, but I'll search on drivers and see what I come up with.

touchpads are typically made by Synaptics or Alps. As a first step, I would look on Dell's website to see if you're using their recommended driver. If you are currently using the driver Dell recommends and you're still having problems, then you can see if there are new drivers on either the Synaptics or Alps web site (depending on your model)
