I just installed 2x4GB Corsair DDR2 dual channel kit from Newegg and the laptop fired right up. No problems whatsover. Running Windows 7 [64] and A11 Bios. Also ordered 2 Seagate 500GB Hybrid HDD and will report once they arrive and I do a fresh install of Win 7 64.

Yes. This site and web pages load 50% faster. It made it way snapier. Looking forward to 2 Seagate Hybrid 500GB drives I am going to raid. Seem to be lost in shipping though

I am running 64 bit Windows.

So after nearly a month of running the upgraded 1730 I got to say I am super impressed. THis thing loads web pages instantly as well as I have a large network HDD thats loaded up. I can browse thru the folders on the drive like its right in my laptop. It used to take forever to find something on the network as I always was waiting for a page to load. No need to buy a new laptop if you have one of these. Just install 64 bit Windows and add a bunch or ram and your flying, like a brand new computer.

So it was worth the upgrade instead of getting a new model? How much were you saving here?

I actually purchased a new HP from Costco 15.4 720P screen 720i quad core, ATI 5650 1GB [great card] 6GB DDR3 640GB HDD. IT was $1250.00 out the door with 2 year warranty. It played all games but the lower res screen really sucked. You cant beat the 1920-1080 screen Dell makes. After all my upgrades my 1730 is every bit as quick as the new HP was. I returned the HP to Costco and spent about $500.00 upgrading the Dell. This 1730 has so many nice features the HP didnt. You get what you pay for, but in the end I am going to wait a couple more years and see what laptops are like then. I am sure it will be a lot better than what I have now and if its not I will keep the old Dell untill they are.

A sensible investment and upgrade This will last you for at least 2-3 years.

No DX11 support I found out I cannot run the new 3D Mark 2011 boohoo hoo. I am pretty sure 3D laptops will be the standard in a couple years, but I want to feel the pain of a bullet when I get shot in a video game, I want it that real

Right, by that time it will holographic experience instead (I hope)

Absolutely. Once every 2 years seems about right for me to get a new one

Then after playing / upgrading my old ones, I feel like I don't need to get new ones
