Glass of wine spilled on M17x...

I spilled a glass of wine on my M17x, and it shut down. I immediately removed the battery and ac adapter and called Dell. They said that they would send a box so that I could send it to the repair depot. How long does it normally take for the depot to repair a computer? I got the box today, and it looks like it shipped to me overnight, but the return shipping is listed as GROUND shipping. With the holiday, I am assuming that they will not even get the computer until next week. Does anyone have any experience with the Dell repair depot? What should I expect?

From what I read around here at NBF, most members got the system back within 2 weeks. But with Holidays and all, the post might be swamped. Maybe you can ask Dell for expedited service.

They say it's "beyond economical repair". What should I expect?

Did they say they were replacing it?

A replacement unit, if the warranty is good - no doubt.

Dang, unlike many on here, I need my computer back now more than I need a replacement that will take weeks. My M17x had SLI 280M and T9600 CPU. I hope they don't try to give me some I5 system with a single video card...

I am sure that you will have it before Christmas

Wow, do you think it could be that long? I'm getting tired of using my iPad so much. I keep running into things I can't do. This is terrible.

I hope not. But considering that this is busy season.

It's also a great reason to own multiple lappies! ;-)

Seriously though, I have spilled full cups of hot coffee into my e1705 not once but twice! In both cases, I was able to get the machine cleaned and dried and it still works to this day. Of course, I did not have whatever warranty replaces the machine for accidental damage ...

Just pic up a used netbook from the Dell outlet. That will help make sure your never without a PC.

Lesson learned, don't drink and game. You might spill your drink!!!

That is what the iPad is for.

Well, 21 days after spilling the wine on my computer, the order has finally been placed for my replacement computer. It looks to be identical, with the exception of the CPU and graphics. Old system had T9600 CPU and SLI nVidia 280. New system has i7 740 QM and SLI nVidia 285. So, now that it has been ordered, how long until it's built and shipped to me? It looks like they did do overnight shipping once it's built and shipped to the US.

2-3 weeks mostly. But it might be longer due the holiday seasons.

Wow, so if a person were to go on Dell and order a brand new Alienware right now with overnight shipping, it would still take 2-3 weeks? That's crazy!

This is just another reason that this is probably my last Dell computer. The last three computers and devices I have purchased have been a MacBook, a a 15" i7 MacBook Pro, and an iPad. I am completely thrilled with all of those purchases. I am really close to being a full convert.
