Ordering, not replacement, might be another story

That's a big change over. No issue with navigating within OS X?

That's good to hear. I'm just tired of lugging around 14 lbs of computer. I know, it's my problem, but the only other Dell I would own is a Mobile Precision Workstation, like the M6500. They are almost as big and heavy, so I'm stuck. I really don't like the styling or build quality of any of their other computers. Next to the Alienware and PWS, all the others feel like cheap toys. When I throw my m17x into my Pelican case, it weighs almost 25 lbs. That's a whole lot of weight to be toting around. Just to be clear though, if I bought a Mac, it would have Windows installed on it.

You could always look at the M15x a smaller lighter laptop with the same build quality.

Also there are not many computer vendors out there that would replace a laptop with a even better specd one, like Dell does. most would repair or replace with the same product.

why ruining it? Especially when Apple is working hard to update GPU driver to make their Intel screaming in games

My daughter's 15" i7 MBP has nVidia graphics. I don't game, so that's not really an issue anyway.

I see. Well, as long as Windows is the OS choice, why not. It's an expensive piece of hardware for Windows don't you think?

Another difference I noticed was the LCD on the new system is an "RGB LED" screen. What does that mean? Better or worse than the old screen? I know one benefit of LED LCD's is that they are thinner, but I assume there is no difference in thickness on the m17x...
You have it made then - RGB LED screen is much better than the normal LED screen. Colours are much more true

Got the computer yesterday, and it runs so much better than my M17xR1. I pulled the two 320GB hard drives that came in the computer and installed two Crucial C300 128GB SSD's and I removed the 4GB of Kingston RAM and installed 8GB of Micron 1333 RAM. The only benchmark I have run so far is the Windows Experience Rating, and the score is 7.1. My i7-740qm CPU is the slowest component.

Processor - 7.1
Memory - 7.4
Graphics - 7.3
Gaming - 7.3
Hard Drive - 7.9

I am really impressed with how quickly the thing boots up.

Yeah, it took a month without a computer, but it was probably worth the wait. I would love to find a i7-940xm CPU for cheap, but that won't happen. My LCD has a hardware ID of "monitor/SEC5443", which I assume is a Samsung. I could not be more pleased with it. On my original system, I had to keep the brightness turned all the way up. On this one, I knock it down two notches, and it is still brighter than the old one. I have not loaded any games yet, but I will. I am testing a program called Diskeeper 2010 Pro Premier with Hyperfast, which is supposed to optimize SSD drives. We'll see how that goes.

Wow man over a damn month!! What are your specs? I just am installing the seagate XT drive 500 gig one and going to test it out coming from the 128 gig ssd made by samsung i hope it runs well i hear nothing but great things from the drive. Going to trim it right now. I want a 940 extreme so damn much man i never had that performance before it's better to get a OEM than anything else the QS and ES are very unstable from what i read and personal observations. Also don't forget you can overclock your dual core and quad core up to i7 840 using setfsb due to the unlocked blck.

That's insane! I priced out a similar system recently and it came out to over five grand! My wife would have me killed and collect the life insurance! Some day, some day ... :-)

A glass of red wine would be cheaper to get a good comp
