Just got an Precision M6500 - what now?

Are there any best practices in terms of tweaking and optimizing a Dell Precision M6500? I'm thinking along the lines of some of the bloatware that might be loaded. In the past I recall the suggestion of doing a full re-format, re-install but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

My broken record

- disable (not removing) start-up processes and services that you don't need
- get a free antivirus software (check out the Software General Section for input)
- update OS and drivers.
- enjoy your comp

cheers ...

I am a fan of clean install with all the updated drivers

If dell did not give you the restore CDs then make sure you do not delete the recovery partiton

Latitudes and precisionsh don't usually come with much more than drivers and powerDvd and roxio. I'd be surprised if you had anything more than that.

Very true. I just got my M4500 a couple of days ago. No bloatware was installed that I could find. It was very clean.

For what it's worth... the RAM that Dell installed in my M4500 doesn't seem to be that great.

My WEI RAM score went from 5.5 to 6.9 when I took out the Samsung RAM that came with my system and installed Crucial.

I really didn't expect that.

The reason why I did this was because to upgrade from 2GB (1GBx2) to 8GB (4GBx2) at Dell was going to be $481. I got the Crucial for $160 shipped to my door.
