hp dv6500 won't start/charge battery

Hello

I have a hp dv6500 (dv6610ep) that doesn't charge the battery and won't start without the battery. When i connect the power jack, the blue light around the connector lights up but not the light in front, exactly like this video: YouTube - HP Pavilion DV6500 Wont Turn On I have charged the battery in another dv6000, and it works fine. Can I connect the charger directly in place of the battery? Whats the pinout for the battery connectors? Help. Thanks.

Sergio
(sorry for my english)

Did you try your power adapter on the other dv6000 as well?

Yes. It worked.

Then the power jack board is failing. It's easy to replace, just $$ for the part.

Same symptoms on a dv6835nr I'm working on for a friend, but I am reasonably sure it's not the power jack board... it puts out 19V to the motherboard from the p.jack board.

Any other ideas on what to check next? (Before I just buy a new motherboard)

Tried wiggling the power jack?

Yeah... I checked voltage at the end of the wires that come from the power jack board where they plug into the mainboard with a multimeter and got 19V, so it's getting the correct voltage to the motherboard and doesn't appear to be the jack itself or the jack board.

I got what you said, but sometimes the soldering (contact) within the power board to the main board can be bad even though it shows that incoming voltage is correct. Wiggling it in different position (charlatan approach) can determine that the contacts are still ok or not.

I personally would try with different ac adapters and batteries as well before writing off the motherboard.

gotcha. not likely to be that easy given my luck lately, but I suppose it's worth a try.

I've tried 2 or 3 other adapters as well, and it's the same story... the power jack plug LED lights up, but that's it. Nothing happens when the power button is pressed. I was going to try and borrow another battery from a friend to test tomorrow, most of the dv2000 & dv6000 series use the same battery, right?

I was really hoping it would be the typical Nvidia chip issue when she told me what was wrong with her laptop.. those aren't too bad to fix usually. :-(

Well if it comes to the motherboard issue, you can try the baking ding (we cover this subject quite extensively here at NBF ) to revive it first - one has nothing to lose in this case.

Check out HP bulletin as well. They do have free replacement for certain models due to this nVidia chip.

That's the thing though, it's not an NVidia GPU... it's an Intel X3100.

Make no difference. Integrated or dedicated GPU - bake it away

Still, contact HP and see. Good luck.

I'm sure I'll give it a go after I rule out everything else before I buy a new MB.

I've repaired several dv2000/6000s by isolating the GPU and using a heatgun, is that what you are talking about, or a different method?

Heat-gun is fine. I personally just put the whole board in the oven, making sure that all plastic parts have been removed first of course.
