wifi not present in compaq c700

i recently got a hp Compaq presario c 700 laptop from my office.
specs :
intel dual core, 1 gb ram,running windows xp sp2, 160gb hdd.

i have 2 major problems
1- i see a wifi button, but see no "wifi related options" anywhere (not even in network connections)
2- it hangs a lot, ran a lot of antivirus scans but it still hangs.

i hope somebody can help.

Go into device manager and see if there's a wireless card even installed.

I recommend that you re-install XP and all drivers, get the user manual from here and start fresh. Good luck.

thank you all for the replies.
i am thinking of reinstalling windows xp. i just wanted to ask, will the normal disk for windows xp work? the disk i use to install on desktops.?

and can anybody help me with the drivers required?

All your drivers should be here.

As far as the installation disk concerns, it is fine as long as it is the same version as your COA key is, underneath the notebook.
