Or must we say - test drive a Chrome Notebook!

Quote:
We have a limited number of Chrome notebooks to distribute, and we need to ensure that they find good homes. That’s where you come in. Everything is still very much a work in progress, and it’s users, like you, that often give us our best ideas about what feels clunky or what’s missing. So if you live in the United States, are at least 18 years old, and would like to be considered for our small Pilot program, please fill this out. It should take about 15 minutes. We'll review the requests that come in and contact you if you've been selected.

This application will be open until 11:59:59 PM PST on December 21, 2010
Get yours if you are lucky here.

Or pick one at the event in San Francisco

The machine is called CR-48, a 12.1" possibly Atom based system, Wifi and 3G.

Applied too

put in my app too, as a developer.

so from the report from Inventec (the builders for this test notebook), they're going to roll out approximately 60,000 of them (maybe more, thats just whats already been shipped to Google). so im thinking chances are probably going to be fairly good for at least one of us here to get one. would like to know the resolution the screen is running tho

Don't quote me on this, but we would be looking at 1280x800 resolution

Good luck TV and Conda

I'm willing to bet a craptacular 1330x768. It is the "standard" as much as none of us geeks like such a tiny resolution.

It would not be so bad with such high resolution

I need at least 1600x900, preferably 1680x1050 or more though. I'm very saddened by how low quality all notebook screens are.

I need to turn on extra large font just to be able to see on my 12.1" at the moment.

I wear glasses but the fonts on such a small screen are USUALLY ok for me. Its more for my graphics work I MUCH prefer the larger resolutions.

Agreed! High resolution screens are simply better. But I have my glasses, plus the jeweler glass or I use my 23" external display.

My take is that Google is (eventually) trying to do what Microsoft does, offering an alternative OS direct to systems manufacturers in return for packaging its own Apps and marketing gimmicks (bloatware) in the end. It is simple to offer Android on mobile devices, but Chrome OS on mainstream systems might take some learning for normal users at the moment.

Well it looks like the Google laptops have started arriving on peoples door steps. No email or tracking numbers to warn them they are getting them. Keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

I was hoping my trying to remove the bloatness of windows from my life would win me points. We'll see.

Well, I am a few days behind the times here, but I just applied for one as well. I suspect I am too late if people are already receiving them.

This is crazy, but with all the Chrome Notebooks hitting review sites til now - none of them would care to put up what the standard resolution is

So far everyone seems to agree that external devices access is still a no-go zone
