Odd PCMCIA issue on Latitude D600

These past couple of months, everytime my laptop is moved, there's a tendency for my wireless connection to break and I get an error message about my PCMCIA WiFi card not functioning properly.

I've duplicated this issue on two Linksys WPC-54Gs and a D-Link DWL-G650. The problem only occurs when the laptop is moved. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm trying to figure out if this is heat-related since when I pull out the card, it smells a little burnt. It could also be that there's some trouble with the pins in the PCMCIA slot or maybe the contacts are dirty. Any ideas?

so it happens on 2 different wifi cards and you smell something burning? well better judgement dictates something is etiehr wrong with your laptop. if the contacts are a bit dirty then cleaning them on the pcmcia side wont help since its the inside thats the problem. do you get any other problems with other pcmcia device slike a memory card reader?

I don't have any other PCMCIA devices aside from the WiFi cards. The local Dell rep advised me to upgrade the BIOS despite the things I just wrote. I'm thinking of holding off until my visit to Singapore and have Dell Singapore take a look at it instead.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't PCMCIA cards supposed to be hot-swappable?
