Getting A New Laptop

I'm getting the G72GX, and it comes out to with tax, about 800 dollars. I was wondering if anyone who owns or knows a lot about this laptop could tell me some stuff I should know, and also if I were to overclock it, (not saying I would) would it be dangerous? I've seen a few videos and posts saying that you should overclock for good performance on newer games.

Any info would be helpful

Thanks

We have a few threads in the Section about this model. You might want to browse through them. I personally think the ASUS G line is solid.

cheers ...

Overclocking on a notebook is mainly useless except for benchmarking and bragging rights. There is much less tolerance in mobile parts for overclocking and when it goes wrong, it causes more expensive and more complicated problems. Further, you will rarely see significant or noticeable gains in gaming from overclocking your notebook. As a result, I would recommend only overclocking if you know what you're doing and on a very limited basis.

Okay thanks, I know that overclocking will make a laptop heat up a lot, I think I'll upgrade the processor maybe in march, does anyone know which processor would be the best to get and how expensive?

The most powerful dual-core CPU you can put in the G72Gx is an Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 at 3.06 Ghz and costing $530. It may be possible to put in a quad-core Q9000 (2 Ghz, $348), Q9100 (2.26 Ghz, $851), or QX9300 (2.53 Ghz, $1038) but there may also be BIOS restrictions that prevent that.

**Disclaimer: all prices listed are courtesy of Intel and apply to orders of 1000 or more units. Retail prices will likely be higher.**
