its an oldie i just inherited seems to do everything it should but one problem no matter what os 7 xp linux which is on atm.....i get freezez with either the touchpad use or wirless connection freezez solid not allways straight away.. different times... if i plug a external mouse in it freezes but that may be linux.....i did read i dont know where but a cpu may have inherent faults? anyone up with this please advise...many thanx phil

I would give it a good clean up, new thermal paste, re-installation of OS - just to start.

hey thanx for that it certainly im proved but als another small prob i reinstalled xp and now it doexsnt show ati chip/card and the vgasave is sitting as not loaded needs driver ive messed about byut cant seem to load drivers ati suite says vga need to be going first but ive come to a stop any help appriciated thanx phil

ermm that could be some of the problem as this lappie didnt have chipset drivers i will have to try and find all i know they are intel any more help appreciated thanx phil

thanx but i have been there all they offer is very limited the sony vaio update things a joke had it on and says no updates available guess ill have to read chipset markings to do intel search tia

You don't need to look for updates - only what came originally with the system. Don't they even have it?

no nothing hows that just a few basic updates no chipset anything i dont know about sony usa but i still cant find that model with chipset stuff

How about downloading and installing the VAIO Update , then letting it check out what the system needs?

vaio update does nothing much at all it just shows a few basic files certainly not chipset ....ive been to intel site but everything i dload doesnt seem for me even the chipset util doesnt work lol

Try this attachment - this is the driver controller for ATI Mobility 9700/9200 of the A1xx models. Hope it works.

thanx for that ill try in a day or so i think i may have damaged a little ribbon cable from mb to power switch as theres no life at the moment...lol

sorry bout delay finnally fixed the little ribbon cable couldnt get one so recut the end filed plasic off and a drop of super glue its doing the trick so i tried that file and it says not for my model darn any other ideas thanx much phil
