I have been searching the internet for days trying to find the laptop for me, and every search always returns me to the asus due to the the cheap price (1200 at best buy) and the fact that its specs destroy most new games. But i couldnt commit to buying it because of the lack of full HD resolution and no Blu ray player... and then i found the Acer, for only 1250 online, an 18" pc with almost the same specs and blu ray as well as full HD resolution. yet the asus seems to always get better reviews, and the acer doesnt.. anyone know why this is?

P.S. if anyone has a recommendation for a pc with similar specs (good graphics, hd display, blu ray) at less than 1300$ let me know

The Acer comes with HD5850 whereas the ASUS comes with HD5870 GPU, according to the general specs. And the ASUS is more solid in my opinion.

cheers ...

yeah i was just looking at a comparison and the jh performed better in pretty much everything graphics related. will the lack of 1920 x 1080 resolution take away from the display though?

I am sure that you can upgrade the screen if you want, but for gaming 1920 x 1080 is really overkilled, thus the reason ASUS stays away from it in this model

i think im going to end up going with the toshiba, just because of the blu ray, and the fact that it matches all the specs of the asus except for the ram, as well as coming with a bigger screen and 7200rpm hard drive ill let you know how i like it in a few days :P

You may want to look at this deal from Amazon:

I purchased this computer and I have to say I'm quite pleased with it. The only serious complaint I have with it is that it doesn't have bluetooth. But a bluetooth dongle can be purchased for less than $10. It comes with a 2gb discrete ATI Radeon HD 5850 graphics card. I think one of the most impressive feature is its sound system. It has a 5.1 surround sound setup. In my opinion, it's the best sounding laptop computer I've owned in the past 10 years. It doesn't rival home theater sound systems by any stretch of the imagination, but for a laptop it really is impressive. It has the ability to install a second HD and up to 16GB RAM (most laptops this price don't have this feature). Also, I was able to pick up a 3 year warranty from Square Trade for about $100 after using a coupon. Let me know if you have any questions, I'll do my best to help you.

These speakers are good it's just the subwoofer lacks in bass sometimes for certain songs but holds it's own i prefer the M17x R1 and R2 speakers of course.

Notebook speakers are only for show They are simply not made for room entertainment. A good headset or external set of speakers are a pre-requisite to audio enjoyment with notebooks. My 2 cents, of course.
