Gateway??

Are Gateway laptops still good machines?? My first desktop computer, waaay back when, was a Gateway and it was a great machine. Lasted a long time. I've been looking at laptop options to replace a Dell Inspiron and looked into the Gateway NV55c. I see that they only sell through retailers now (such as RadioShack which carries the model I was looking at). Will I be disappointing compared to my Dell??

Which NV55C model are you looking at? Which Dell Inspiron model are you comparing it to?

For less than $500, the Gateway is ideal for a replacement of your Inspiron 1525. Clarify with RS about warranty though.

I had asked, in another post about an HP model. Do you think the Gateway, given the same or similar specs, is a better unit than an HP? I have seen some complaints online in regards to Gateway customer service/tech support, however, I have never had to contact tech support so I don't know how much "help" I should be expecting anyway. In one of you posts from the other thread you mentioned that HP had very good support, but lesser quality (in general) machines than Dell? How do you think Gateway stacks up?

I have zero experience of issue with any brands/models that I bought and owned over the years.

Saying that - you'll hear horror stories along with praises to any brands out there, or just read through NBF and you'd see the same thing. If you are the 1st time notebook owner go with a local where you can have eye-to-eye conversation when issues arise.

Expanded on this - I did have issues, as with hardware and software, but none was/is crazy enough for me to write off any brands
