The first notebook in HP’s stable that’s powered by AMD’s dual-core E-350 APU, which integrates the CPU and DX11 graphics on the same chip. HP touts that this ultraportable will give users the performance to play1080p videos and casual/mainstream games.

A new black Grid Imprint finish graces the lid, which transitions to silver on the inside You get a full-size keyboard and a clickpad with raised bumps near the bottom to indicate the right and left mouse buttons. This should help users navigate without having to look down.

As with the dm3, HP includes its CoolSense technology on the dm1. Both hardware and software work together to keep the notebook cool whether it’s in your lap or on a stable surface. Meanwhile, the Dolby Enhanced front-facing speakers show promise for good audio quality.

Users can choose a hard drive up to 750GB or an SSD drive (which ups the battery life by an hour). Built-in GPS is also an option, as is 4G mobile broadband. Since the Vision technology from AMD makes for smooth, full HD playback, shoppers can also opt for an external Blu-ray drive.

The dm1 comes with a 6-cell battery that sits flush with the system. HP rates battery life at 9 hours without Wi-Fi.
