Should I get the studio XPS 16 or newer XPS 17?

the XPS 17is newer

pro:

has USB 3
better GPU (i7 Processor 740QM (1.73 Ghz, 6MB, 4C))
better CPU (3GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 445M Graphics Card)

cons:

bad screen (not HD, bad viewing angles and colours)

XPS 16 older

pro:

good screen (Truelife 1080p Full HD RGBLED)

cons:

slightly worse processor ( i7 Processor 720QM (1.60Ghz, 6MB cache))
worse graphics (1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 565v graphics)

I will be glad for any opinions. Thanks

Graphic card alone cannot determine a performance of a notebook. Sure the ATI in the XPS16 performs less than the nVidia in the XPS17, but it is not a bad card for general purposes.

What will you be using the notebook for?

Thanks for the reply, I will be useing it for gaming, amature games programming - some graphics stuff like photoshop and 3D modeling. Probably work things too like word processing (and more programming).

Edit - not really interested in the blue ray that the 17 has, as I have a blue ray player.

According to many reviews the 445M is at the bottom of the 1st class GPU, and the HD 565v is rated at the top 30% of the 2nd Class - personally the range is not that far off as far as gaming concerns.

And since the XPS 16 15.6" screen is much better for games resolution - and a better display than the XPS17 - I would definitively go for the XPS16 - my thinking

For Photoshop and 3D Modeling, it's better to hook either notebooks to a larger external

I agree, well - you made my choise alot easier! I just have to persuade my insurance company (my old studio 17 got stolen), luckily I think the XPS16 is actually a little cheaper!
