Itermitten mouse disconnect and HW disconnect sound

[NP8760] [ I see no forum for this model]

I have been experiencing intermittent mouse disconnects. I hear the HW disconnect sound then the mouse goes dead.

To get it going I end up doing all kinds of baloney... not sure what really helps... pull the usb plug and switch ports, sometimes revives the mouse, not always.

Working the mouse around to different windows with the finger pad sometimes revives, not always

Manual disconnect and reconnect sometimes revives, not alway.

Combinations of above sometimes works... again, not always.

It never happens with the finger pad... that always seems to work.

I've tried 3 different usb mice.... tried all possible ports. It just this minute happened and I'm not touching the mouse or finger pad.

Absolutely must be fixed as its disrupting my work flow very badly.

Googling, I found some older messages from 2009 (not on this forum) and not about sager laptop, but described the very same problem.

2 fixes were in the thread there.
1) uncheck a standby button in device manager for the fingerprint reader. Mine has no `standby' to uncheck. It does have something like:
[x] allow the machine to turn off to save power, which was checked... I unchecked it but still happening.

2) disable usb hub 1 and 5 in device manager.
The `disable' button on mine are inactive and greyed out.

Can anyone give me some advice about this?

Is your Windows up to date? - You can try uninstall the USB controller and let the OS re-installing it.

cheers ...

Thanks for the input.

I had actually done both of those things some time ago, but started the day to day by going to windows update... There was an update to defender definitions is all.

I uninstalled all USB devices in HW devices and let the OS reinstall them.

Keeping HW devices screen open while I work, and I see a few times that it refreshes itself. Seems random, and not very frequent. (This is after the usb devices have been reinstalled)

I'll see as the day goes on what happens.

You might want to check the configuration and tick (turn) off/disable the option to turn off power to these USB ports to save power

I don't quite follow you here.
Do you mean it would have some bearing on the disconnects?

Understand that when I uninstall (disable is inactive) the usb controllers. I have no mouse at all.

Can you describe in some detail what you are referring too?

When I look in the HW devices screen I see 6 usb devices under Universal Serial Bus Controllers

I've provided a screen grab at:
HW.png

You can see the USB devices and you can see the properties screen from the top one opened to the drivers tab.

Note that the disable and rollback buttons are inactive and greyed over. Is that the `disable' you speak of.

Any idea why they should be greyed out?

And finally is any of that likely to have an impact on the disconnect problem?... I mean other than turning any mouse possibility clear off?

What we wanted to try is to remove the USB controller (temporarily), restart and let the OS re-install it after detecting the new hardware. This process of un-installing and letting the system re-installing the devices can solve intermittent performance issues.

So, right hand click on that USB controller in the device manager and choose the option to un-install it. If you are being concerned, create a system restore point first before continuing.

cheers ....

Ahh yes... sorry I failed to report after having done that.

I can say now that uninstalling and letting os reinstall all usb devices has not helped the situation at all, within 1/2 hr after that was done the disconnects started happening again.

I tried it once more and rebooted to allow the reinstall to take place rather than just rescannning for hardware changes, and again it has had no effect on the disconnects.

Now, when you said this:
"You might want to check the configuration and tick (turn) off/disable the option to turn off power to these USB ports to save power"

What does it mean?... you understand that `disable is not available on the properties of any of the usb devices. And further that when I turn them off, I have no mouse at all, so I'm curious what you mean about power saving.

Refer to the posted image
To see what I mean about `disable' not being available

Also anymore tips to try regarding the disconnect problem?
Is there no known procedure to eliminate it?

Go through each entry of the USB devices under USB controller. Some of them would have the option under Energie Management the option to uncheck "let system turning off device" or something like that.

cheers ...
