I'm stuck between these two, I want one that runs anything I will throw at it. The one thing that I like about the ASUS is that it's also 3D and has a Blu-Ray player, but I'm not sure if the Alienware outperforms the ASUS. Can you please help a noob out?

Can you put up the spec links to the (both) ones that you are looking at. Configurations are different depending on buyers.

Asus-

Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M with 1.5GB DDR5 VRAM- DX11
Hard Drive: 750GB 7200 RPM
Wireless: 802.11a/g/n WiFi card

Alienware-
Processor: Intel Core i7 Mobile Quad Processors 1.73GHz
Main memory: 4GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 2GB DDR3)
Video card: 1024 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
Hard Drive: 320GB 7200 RPM
Wireless: 1520 802.11n Half Mini- Card

the Asus has built in 3D and Blu-Ray, and it also has a bit better specs than the alienware, but I still want to know which one has the best performance, specially for gaming. I was leaning towards the Alienware because I've always heard that it's better for gaming.

I'd take the ASUS personally, the ROG line up has been very solid as far as gaming concerns, it might not be as flashy as the m17X for sure

What about after-sales warranty and support?

Asus- 1YR accidental damage, 2way free shipping, 2year limited global hardware warranty, 24-7 tech support, 30days zero bright dot LCD

Alienware- 1YR basic service plan, DMLP

yeah I think the warranty of the ASUS is a tad better lol
