BSOD on startup

Thread Starter
For a while my m17x had been randomly freezing. I had never figured out the cause of this. Originally i thought it was overheating issues (my GPU was overheating badly), but I cleaned it out, rechecked the temperatues, and still had the problem.

It froze the yesterday, and now everytime I try to bootup i get the BSOD it says something about Driver_IRLQ_not_less_or_equal or something to that degree. I have tried system restore, safemode, chkdsk, windows repair using disk (windows 7) and have not been able to get back into windows. It gets to the log in window and either freezes, screen blacks out, or BSOD and memory dump then a restart.

I'm considering a reformat but I have some important schoolwork and pictures that I need to save for portfolio.

-thanks

Try swapping out the ram modules and see if that helps. You might want to consider taking the drive out, put in an external housing and accessing data from another comp.

x2 for a external case and retrieve your data files

Time for a reformat when you have your files recovered

i was getting lots of BSODs, tons. Tried everything from testing ram, to hdd to reinstalling. nothing helped. until i found this patch:

KB981180

Once installed, all BSODs disappeared. I had all data backed up so nothing to loose.

like already mentioned, use an external enclosure to back up what you need, then install the patch and see if it helps before doing a reinstall.

Isn't this patch mostly for Zone Alarm issue?

i thought it was, but in my case, a fresh install with no zone alarm, and it still happened. but since the patch, with and without zone alarm, not one bsod. before i was getting 3 or 4 a day, fresh install and no patch, 1 or 2 at least every 2 days.

friend of mine that know crap load than i would ever want to know said it was a good patch, especially if you make many more connections at the same time, like torrents or servers.
