HP zv5022 Notebook with HT

here are the specs for this notebook which i purchased about three weeks ago..

Intel Pentium 4M 3.06ghz(HT available)
512mb DDR RAM
ATI 9000 mobility(128mb-shared )
DVD/CD-RW
Windows XP Home

Seems pretty normal so far!? Here's the deal for those that have recently purchased this notebook from this series.
I decided to perform a benchmark using the PCMark04 from futuremark.com and found that although I was getting slightly better scores than desktops I wasnt getting the nowhere near other notebooks with the same specs.
I look @ the details of my notebook and found that "Hyper Threading" is available but in brackets it clearly states that it is in fact "disabled".

I contacted the HP tech support and waited the standard 30 minutes on hold until I finally spoke to a lady who asked me what "Hyper-Threading" was. Alarm bells started ringing after periods of silence she finally conceded that it is nowhere to be found on their knowledge base regarding this issue of hyper threading being disabled, which I later found out that it is shipped out as "enabled" by default. The product specialist asked me to look in the BIOS and look for anything that will enable it, I said no there isnt an option thats why I called.

The gentleman then informed me, much to my surprise and highly doubtful of this fact- that I was the first customer he's aware of that is having this issue. He then advised me that he will open a case for me and for a product specialist to call me back. Someone did call me back in 24 hours which was a pleasant surprise only to be told that Windows XP Home does not support HT and this fix can only be obtained from Microsoft directly or wait until the ServicePack 2 is released.

here are the following KB regarding this issue

Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 810231
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 823583
Computers that are equipped with Mobile Intel Pentium 4 processors with Hyper-Threading Technology (HTT) and that support mobile processor power management features require correct BIOS support and an updated processor driver to enable these features on a computer that is running Windows XP. These power management features include Intel SpeedStep technology and ACPI-defined processor idle sleep states (C-states). Without this processor driver update, computers that are equipped with these HTT-capable mobile processors may experience reduced battery life, decreased performance, or increased operating temperatures.

So I now I wait for a response from Microsoft if Im actually going to be able to take advantage of this HT technology before I have to purchase a new notebook.

For those that have or currently experiencing this same issue please provide me some feedback..

thank you...hope this help someone..

Haven't looked through the Knowledgebase articles yet, does XP Pro support HT?

this issue affects both XP home and Pro versions...
a little reluctant to install winXP pro as it states that I would void the warranty if a retail version of Windows OS is installed on the notebook...although I did consider trying but I thought its not worth it..
