"We apologize for this process taking so long," a Dell liaison wrote in support forum post. "We have an ETA around March for when the M11x-R1/R2 Hinge fix program will be started. The start date range hinges is dependent on a 3rd party vendor and other details so it is not concrete. When it does begin, all who have the hinge defect will get it repaired regardless of the warranty end date. We know that you deserve the re-designed Hinge and we will make it happen."

It's said that the squeaky wheel is the one that gets the oil, and there's been a lot of squeaky wheels complaining about borked hinges on Dell's Alienware M11x notebook line. In one forum thread, there's over 150 users who reported problems with their M11x, most of which cried foul over cracked and noisy hinges.

Below is what some m11x owners tried to get by the problem of the flimsy hinges - with epoxy

I am glad that I sent mine back. AT&T just tried to bill me for the 3G
today. Good to hear it will be taken care of though.

Look and Feel (4/5):
Besides the brushed aluminum lid (which is incredibly sensible trying by the way), the plastic body feels terribly durable. i am not the most important fan of shiny plastic (would like matte), however it does not build the laptop feel or look low cost like alternative laptops.

The keyboard is sweet to kind on, very like the newer generation macbook / macbook professionals. The trackpad is certainly uncommon with it being created out of an equivalent shiny plastic because the body, however once the initial shock of not having a usual trackpad surface is over with it is a pleasure to use. The multitouch is nearly as good as good} as you'll get on a non-apple laptop too (that's not saying much, however I commend asus for the addition of it).

Power and Performance (5/5):
This is the primary ultra transportable laptop that I've used that has little compromise in terms of power and performance. Out of the box the one.3ghz processor is truly overclocked by Asus to squeeze out even additional power. i'm a developer and may run multiple development environments / surf the net / run iTunes and therefore the laptop doesn't skip a beat.

I conjointly love the power to dial up the ability of the pc when i am not involved concerning battery life and dial it go into reverse when i am attempting to conserve. The Asus guys extremely designed an excellent machine here.

If youre wondering how the Nvidia dedicated graphics performs, I simply fired up decision of Duty trendy Warfare two and played it at 1280x768 while not a hitch! once more, no compromises there with dangerous gaming performance.

Durability (Initial thoughts: 4/5)
While it is not an aluminum unibody style, it feels quite durable. I've solely had this a number of days though, therefore we'll see how it holds up, however it feels alot higher than most Sony laptops I've employed in the past if that offers any indication. conjointly the aluminum lid feels fantastic and durable when gap / closing the laptop.

Value (5/5)
There is no reason to pay over $1000 for an ultra transportable anymore. Get this, and pay the money you saved on an SSD onerous drive to actually build this laptop scream. the ability / performance / worth ratio for this machine is rediculous. All alternative ultra transportable makers ought to step it up bigtime, as a result of Asus came to play with this laptop!

The internets are all ablaze (if you follow M11x topics) about it so good to see they are doing something. Sometimes bad press is, well, bad press.

Outside of the hinge design/placement this is a great little system.
