No display on POST - 8887

I let my 8887 run till the battery died last night and now the screen is blank when I power it up. It sounds as though it is powering up normally but then stops prior to lighting up the display. The disc drives spin, the fans run at full speed, the num lock, cap lock etc.. lights are on but no "returning to windows" across bottom of screen as it usually does. I do not normally run it till the battery dies, maybe once a month, just to cycle the battery, but I do frequently shut it down by just closing the lid.
Is this just a coincidence? Or, has there been any other problems like this before? I have NEVER had a problem out of this unit and it has been all over the world with me in the last 11 months or so. I use it every day.
What do I try next.

Fixed It

Ok, feel like an idiot. Apparently one of my kids got to playing with keyboard last night after I went to bed. In addition to turning the power strip off and running the battery down, one of them somejow managed to hit ctrl and F6 at the same time time!! The LCD display was turned off, so yeah, no display. I had already started the troubleshooting phase by removing the battery and swapping one of the ram sticks out, when I saw the ctrl button fo r LCD/CRT. I guess I still have NEVER had a problem with the 8887 !

Most notebooks have this feature. It is LCD only, External Only, and LCD and External operating together.

If I'm not mistaken, the 8887 has a lithium ion battery, right? Those don't need to be cycled (and, actually, *shouldn't* be cycled -- it will wear them out faster).
