i just got my i9100 today. (well it came last tuesday but i was away at school.) first thing i did was benchmark it with 3dmark2001 and 2003. it ran fine, no lockups. so then i test for dead pixels. i see one dead pixel. also see 1cm high light leakage at the bottom of the lcd. the leak doesnt bother me as much as that 1 dead pixel. i know the dead pixel is there and im always looking at it. im wondering if i should get a replacement sceen just because of that 1 dead pixel. am i just anal? whats the chances of the replacement screen having more dead pixels?

Statistically? The same as your chances of getting a dead pixel on the first one.

im also wondering if dead pixels are common. how many of you guys have dead pixels on your screen? what about light leakage?

You need to look into what Dell's warranty is about dead pixels. I think they allow up to 6 dead pixels before they consider it a defective monitor.

I just got my 9100 replaced cuz I had light leakage, my new 9100 came in yesterday but it has light leakage. The first screen was a Samsung, my replacement is a sharp, so my advice is don't bother asking for a replacement, because u might end up with a system worse then the original.

yeah thats what im afraid of. i might get a replacement thats worst.
i tried looking for any other dead pixels and thats the only one. so its not covered under the 6 dead pixel warranty. but whats dell's policy for light leakage. do all lcds have tiny light leaks? or its not normal to have light leaks?

ps.
sorry for noob questions. i am new. this is my first laptop / lcd display.

Trust me, dead pixel questions are the most common question, because it needs to be. The simple fact that companies allow any dead pixels on their laptops is unacceptable, but almost all companies have the same 6 or more being their limit. Kind of crappy policy if you ask me.

if there is only 1, try "rubbing it out" with your finger. For instance gently rub in a circle around that dead pixel. This actually worked on my compaq x1000, and it never came back.

If not, call dell and tell them there is a massive amount of light leakage and dead pixel(s). Exaggerate your problem, say the light disrupts watching movies etc etc. The reason I say this is, if there is only 1 dead pixel they might give some lame excuse of how that's in an acceptable range of dead pixels (1-3 not in a row).

I also thought that sharp was superior to the samsung screen for uxga..
