Compaq v2000 dead

My compaq v2000 dead , when i hit the power button it powers up , the caps lock and num lock blinks one time and the power led and the processor led glows on continuesly , cpu fan runs for a few seconds and switches off itself during power up . i have resetted everything , by taking out the ram and putting back in and by removing the battery and holding the power button for 60 seconds and inserting the ac adaptor nothing happens. i have tried the cpu with another think pad its working properly ,and the laptop is charging properly. is my motherboard dead please help me guys thanks

Look like it. You can try putting new thermal paste also, if you haven't done it in a long while.

its not even showing the boot menu , where should i put the thermal paste ?

You need to take the notebook apart, remove the heatsink. The thermal paste is between the heatsink and the CPU. HP should have the service guide as how to get to it. It's quite simple really, just needing lots of patience. It's just a long shot - no guarantee that it would help with a bad board.

Motherboard is gone, probably from a bad GPU. Brave enough to go with a board baking? You have nothing to lose.

We have lots of tips and guides in bake / baking here in the forum, just search for the keywords.

this is the classic DV2000/DV6000/DV9000 Manufacture defect you are probably going to have to replace the board.
