I recently purchased a battery for my Gateway MT6458 from a company on eBay. It's rated at 14.4 volts and 7200mAh.
The weird behavior:
When I put the battery in my notebook, it will act like it's charging it for a couple of seconds, but then the charging indicator turns red. The notebook will start off of what little charge is in the battery if the AC adapter is not plugged in. If I go into the BIOS, and go into battery learning, it will attempt learning (showing up as a 6 cell though it's probably a 12), but then the light will turn red again, and it will say: BATTERY MALFUNCTION! (Over voltage) LEARNING FAIL (BAT abnormal).
I've let the company know about the problem, and they sent me a replacement, but I have the same problem. Oh, and my power brick has no problem charging my old battery, so I expect that is not the problem (it's also outputting slightly over its rated 19 volts, but that's with no load).
Any help would be very much appreciated
