You mean anyone who feels like being a guinnea pig...

I have no problems with my setup now, so I ain't gunna change nutin'

Maybe when 9.1 comes out, I'll move to 9.0a... or if a plethora (word of the day) of people swear BY it (and not AT it) then I'll try it.

Here is what I found on Hardocp.com ...

DX9.0A:
Wow, that did not take long did it? I am not sure what this is all about but I did set a restore point and am installing it now. I will let you know if I get hosed or not. Thanks Tim.

UPDATE: All seemed to have went fine with the install of the new DX files. At first glance it even seems to have fixed some stability issues I was having at high resolutions. Will let you know what we hear via email.

UPDATE2: Reader feedback from James and he has really done some testing this evening. Here is a cut and paste of his mail:

I downloaded DX9a and installed, it has worked perfectly in the following games@ Top Graphical Settings/1600 Res. on my ATi AiW 9700 Pro:

BF1942, BF1942: Road To Rome, UT2K3, MOHAA, MOHAA: Spearhead, Delta Force Black Hawk Down, C&C Generals, Raven Shield, Hitman 2, Mafia.

And they have fixed the pixel drag glitch I had in BF1942 and MOHAA.

No issues and I also have found more stable gaming @ high resolution and a more stable, solid stream of a bit higher FPS (5-10fps increase) in a few games. (No fluctuating fps) ......

Thanks for the linkage; this is actually an update thats worth the time to install. =)

It call a quietly update(as I heard from many website said that ) .... I guess Microsoft haven't post any on their website yet, but if you use a DX9-WebUpdate, it will download directly from Microsoft website. After install it use Dxdiag to check it out, it will tell your system have DirectX 9.0a .

Silly question ...

This is coming from someone who was using WIN95 (doh!) before purchasing his Sager ..

How does one establish a "system restore point" so I could go back to my original drivers/settings if I muck something up by attempting to install new drivers?

And how does one go back to that restore point later on?

Thanks in advance,

Joe C.

Weird thing, MS just pulled the 9.0a release from the download site.

Strange. Those MS folks are very tricky. According to my inside contacts, they pulled it because of some bugs that were discoverd right after posting the .a point release. Now it is back with the same name. Hmm, did they fix them and repost with the same name? Did they repost and not fix anything? Was there a problem to begin with?

Here is a bug they found in DirectX 9.0a.. I'm not sure the new one they just post(with the same name) have been fixed those bug or not.

UPDATED Microsoft has released DirectX 9.0a for a second time, after it pulled the update due to a problem with ATI graphics cards. Most notably corrected in version 9.0a is an issue that caused MSN Messenger to malfunction when DirectX 9 was installed. Problems with some multiplayer games have also been resolved. The initial DirectX 9.0a release was incompatible with ATI Catalyst 3.1 drivers, still in use by many gamers, according to Microsoft.

Don't you just love when they tease us?

Oh, Microsoft, you're so baaaaad!
