Matshita Optical Drive (driver)

Hello all,

Windows 7 tells me that the driver for the optical drive is missing or corrupt and cannot be loaded.

Gateway assures me (by marking my case 'solved') that it is a generic driver and that rebooting will reinstall.

It does not and I'm at a loss as what to do next.

This is only a technically challenged what if: What if I found the driver physically removed it and then hit update would Microsoft auto-update download the driver?

As it is when I hit update Microsoft tells me that the driver is up to date.

Appreciate you guys that actually know what your doing and are willing to give a hand.

What were you trying to do?
Try finding and updating the optical drive firmware?

Forum posts for basement dwellers like notches on belt

There is no newer firmware available.

Sorry to be slow, but I don't get what you want here. Windows 7 said that the driver was up to date - what's exactly the issue?

As far as trying to install a new found driver somewhere, you can try forcing W7 to perform a manual installation by pointing it to the folder where the new driver is present

For the what if question - W7 update will only pick up what it is available in their database, and not from a 3rd party site.

Look I don't mean to be so slow on the uptake but this is a new computer, I put a high definition DVD (movie) in the optical drive and I get a pop up that states that windows cannot play the movie because it seems that the driver is missing or corrupted and would i like windows to waste more of my time by trying to fix it?

It's not that big a deal right now, I can always by an external unit to use with all the computers.... just kind of frustrating that everyone of my cdrw optical drives are crashed at the moment. I want to replace this hard drive with a ssd and I need to clone the hard drive before I can do it.

Have you tried with different codecs and/or media players?

So let me see if I understand you. Windows - which actually runs the hardware is telling me that at the lowest level, that script which causes the mechanical device that I have the DVD in to work is not "right" [[but]] your asking me if I've tried different flavors of buttons and bells? What I don't get is that I'm still participating in this game of yours adding "count" to your total.

^^ That message is not always clear cut by Windows when it cannot play certain DVD - thus my suggestion. You can take it or leave it.

There's no need to be rude, if you don't want help, go elsewhere... Here people are trying to help you...

Media codecs interact with the driver for the DVD drive, enabling the media to be played... You can get a corrupt codec doing what you are experiencing, by preventing the disc from playing (common with blu ray when it first came out)... Also check the filters for the ROM drive are not set, again certain programs will do this and cause the ROM drive to 'malfunction'.. read here ...... If you still have issues, the drive may be faulty, your operating system may be corrupt, and you don't have a clue, take it to a shop...
