Gateway E-295C Upgrade

Thread Starter
I was hoping to get some recommendations on what I can do to upgrade my E-295C. Right now, I have the onboard Intel graphics, Celeron P530 (a single core CPU), and 1GB of memory.

1) Memory - I will take out the existing memory and use it in another laptop I have. Should I stick with DDR2 667 or can I go with 800?
2)CPU - I was looking to go to a Core 2 Duo. This is a Socket P mobo (I believe). Can I go with any Socket P CPU or just the ones on Gateway's page?
3)Graphics - I was planning on buying a mobo with ATI 2300 HD graphics on it. The price isn't to bad and the it looks pretty straight forward on removing and installing mobos. Any reason why I shouldn't?

Thanks for the feedback.

1) stay with 667. Gateway chipset is never good with faster ram outside its configuration

2) Stay with what Gateway configures so no hiccup with BIOS

3) If nothing is wrong with current system, why bother? Unless of course you have a good deal on the board

Thanks,
1) I will get some more 667.
2) I will look for a nice T7500 or T7700 on ebay.
3) The big reason to upgrade the mobo to the ATI graphics is to be able to run HD. A lot of times I am running my pj off of my laptop for OTA TV. The X3100 just doesn't have the horsepower.

Even with the new memory, CPU and mobo, the sum cost including my original purchase price of the laptop will be under $400. Considering how well built it is, I think this is money well spent.

$400 - that is a good performance upgrade/price ratio.

Yeah, I can't beat it. I have to use it for work, so it will spend time outside. This thing is much stronger and more durable than the Lenovo I bought a year and a half ago. That laptop is pure fragile plastic. It is only good for using on a desk and not moving. The other good thing about the Gateway is it has a full size Expresscard slot. I can't understand why someone would want a half size slot.
