Max Ram in D820 / D830

Crucial claims 4GB. DDR2 is now made in 4GB modules. Would either of these models support 8GB?

Neither of the chipsets in the D820 or D830 support more than 4GB RAM, so you cannot upgrade beyond that amount.

another bad thing with the 945PM is that since it had to support 32bit only CPUs (the Core Duo and Core Solo CPUs) even with a 64bit OS and a 64bit CPU you still won't be able to use a full 4GB.  Don't know if that was corrected with the 965 Express.

Either Machine can handle 8GB of Ram (with latest BIOS updates). I have 8GB in my D630, if you need a screenshot to prove it.. I love having this much ram. I get a 6.1 for both Ram and CPU. this thing is a beast.

No lie , if you install the new A 15 bios update you can. I didn't think it would work myself my sure enough when I updated the BIOS it worked I also know have a 2.5 due with the 6 megs cache
