Received it December 2002.
I rarely transported it, and when I did I used the (old, crappy) leather case inside my own Targus backpack. Alas, at some point it developed "stress cracks" and progressively worsened. Along with some other stuff.
I'll be contacting Alienware soon to have it replaced, hopefully for free, under warranty. Which is nice, because they'll have to replace it with one of those fancy new cases. That raises a whole bunch of other issues, but I'll be making another thread for that some other day.

Okay...so I ate the up arrow during a long Star Wars Galaxies session, but the shift key broke straight down the middle from stress.

Besides that, she has served me welll.

Well the keyboard is definetely from natural wear and tear. WHen I had my sager 5660, in one year I had 2-3 keys break right through the middle because of stress. I guess that happened to me, because of my heavy gaming. When I visited the forum about it, I read that it had hapened to several others.

I hope you do end up getting a fancy new A51m2, however, I doubt it. I say this because its not like that model has been discontinued... its already on its 3rd or 4th incarnation (Clevo 5690 ).

You beat the living **** out of that lappy... ate it... chewed for 10 min. ... spat it out... flung it at a wall... lit it on fire... and tried to play Halo at full settings on 16x12!!!! It's so so sad...

Same case as the old Alienware. Plenty of reports of cracks, I'm just surprised this is the first time I've heard of it with Alienware.

Stress cracks are one thing, but that just looks like abuse. You shoulda sent it in when the cracks first showed up. Some companies are kinda picky about the extent of damage that they will warranty, I hope for your sake that AW is not one of those companies.
