Install a 3rd party app like Skype and see if it recognizes that you have a cam and it's working

Isn't there suppose to be something else besides the console? I could swear something use to pop up with the console when I used the webcam. Hmm. CRS has taken over!

The console probably carries the whole proprietary utilities for all sort of things. You have a challenge due to Windows 7 installation and finding the apps that support this OS.

Wonderful!

I refuse to complain! I am so happy with the way my system is running with windows 7. Not one BSOD and let me tell you, that is all I was getting with Vista.

I will figured out the webcam thing eventually. I noticed Windows update also installed something for the webcam too but it still doesn't work. All in good time.

I am now looking at the HD on new egg.

How do I know if I have the 5400 or 7200? I know when I added memory I went to a website that scanned my PC. Is there something like this so I don't buy the wrong HD?

Thanks again for all your help! You the Bomb!

Download Speccy, install and run it. It will give you a good overview of the hardware specification.

All in good time approach is the best approach

Hello, This site is a good place to find drivers for your M1730 when you install win7.

http://xpsm1730.blogspot.com/2009/02/xps-m1730-vista-drivers-32-bit.html The drivers for Vista and Win7 are the same.

For the webcam I use the software from Dell. Here is the link.

Hello,

If Dell is talking about the new video card that you bought from them last year then you will have to give it back for the replacement. If not then install the card that came in your computer. That is if you have it.
The new video card will probably be the 9800M GTX. If so then it will be a lot better then the 8800M GTX that you have now.
When my 8800M GTX failed Dell replaced it with a 9800M GTX I saw a big jump in performance.
