Hi All,

When I play a DVD on my Toshiba Satellite P305-S8822, the video will play for about 2 minutes did just freeze the entire system. My only option at this point is to unplug the power, then disconnect the battery. Any ideas what maybe causing this?

I'm using the latest version of TOSHIBA HD DVD PLAYER, and I updated my firmware on my dvd drive.

I 07:50:05 -> Drive 1 - Info: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L632P TO02 (D (ATA)

Thanks.

. When did this happen?
. Have you tried different codecs like K-Lite?
. DMA enable in secondary/primary drive controller?

It has been happening for a while now. I haven't tried K-Lite. I checked my IDE channel, and DMA is enabled.

I would give it a shot with different codecs and media player first and see.

I just tried VLC, and another DVD, and it just blue screened after about 2min of playback. Tried again, and I saw the 'Display driver stopped responding and has recovered' message again. I can't seem to locate my dump file. Not in the minidump folder.

Uninstall GPU driver and let the system re-installing it. Try also under safe mode and see if the system freezes on you or not.

I was able to play the entire movie using VLC without any issues in safe mode. When I tried the Toshiba HD Software, it crashed, with the following message...

Module(s) needed for this application is (are) missing.
If restarting the application does not fix the problem,
please reinstall the application.

When you say uninstall the GPU driver, you mean the video display driver?

It is a good start. Now you can try using VLC in normal mode to be sure. Sounded like the Toshiba Media Modules are corrupt somehow.
