Need Help with new laptop...

Okay, been 'out of the game' for awhile, since my M1730 has lasted 3+ years; however, the warranty is done as of last October and now I need the NEXT biggest baddest gaming notebook on the planet, sent to my house ASAP.

MY question is simple: which one is it, now?

The Dellalienware 17x or whatever their flagship is looks good, but is the single 5870 as good as (or better than) the Sager 7280-1 w/twin 485s? Also, what's the best gaming PROCESSOR? There are now so many processors, it's difficult to make sense. Benchmark quotes are hard to find, now, too, for some reason, so...? Any comments are welcome - basically, I don't care how big or heavy the thing is, and I don't care about battery life - which computer pushes the most frames in the least time as of RIGHT NOW?!??!

TIA!!!

Core i5-(6xx) CPUs are best for gaming at the moment in my opinion. As far as single 5870 vs dual 485 - it's a matter of preference, again my opinion.

Wait...so are the i7's SLOWER than the i5's?!?! This is really confusing...Aa

Does the 5870 push more frames than 2x485's?! Does anyone know this?!

i7 supports other purposes than the i5, pretty much slated for parallel running apps i5 is straight forward: pound them where it is being needed

actually the new M17x - R3 has the faster sandy Bridge CPU's

the R3 GPU option which is the single GPU ATI 5870 or NVIDEA 460 is not any where near as fast as a Dual 485 GPU option.

But the R3 will handle pretty much any game, and will not weight 15 pounds

Agreed. Snag an R3 with a 6970M and any of the Gen 2 i7 CPUs, and you will be a happy camper. 14K Vantage on a single GPU.

I second this. The Sandy Bridge processors plus the 6970 is a formidable duo.

I meant to mention that SLI 485M will beat a single 5870M by a good margin. That laptop also features a desktop CPU as well. It is a very powerful laptop. The price difference between it and the R3 is significant though.

Benchmark numbers mean nothing. How a manufacturer uses different components coupling with software and firmware will determine if any systems are good performers or not.

I wouldn't say that they mean absolutely nothing. Benchmarks are the only standardized way to judge a computer's performance. The benchmarks actually judge the way that "manufacturers use different components coupling with software and firmware". A few years back we used to do in-game benchmarks with FRAPS, but that died off. It was too easy to botch them by staring at a wall, the sky, etc. This is an Alienware thread, so I would have to assume that the folks here care about the performance of their computers.
