Clinking sound?

My M17x has been making a clinking sound for the past couple months and I have been just ignoring it (bad idea), but now it's starting to bother me.

It comes from the touchpad area and I believe it might be a Hard drive.

I've done the SMART test in the Nvidia control panel many times and both always pass. In HDTune under the Health tab it doesn't show anything so I can't test it under that.

One thing to be sure if it is the hard drive is to put another one in there and see. Have you tried re-seating the drive as well?

cheers ...

it could be the DVD drive as well

but you should definitely back up your files just in case.

any maybe consider upgrading the drive anyways

It doesn't sound like it's coming from that side of the machine though.

Also, 320 gigs is more than enough storage space for me, I'm only using like 70 right now

Try downloading and running Hard Disk Sentinel. It can give more detailed info about hard drive problems than SMART data alone.
