i was really hoping sager would start making amd laptops with these new lower voltage amds...or any amd for that matter, i was curious if they currently have any plans....from what iv seen theres ZERO reputable companies that offer customizable amd 64 laptops at decent prices...

No.

Why?
AMD was doing this, then Yanked themselves from the market, now MB makers were REALLY annoyed at this fact, it costs money and time to design a MB just to have the proc pulled. we'll see how AMD's responce is this time around.

i thought sager did have an amd settup in the works?

I won't believe it until Adam sees it.

Colin,

If you sit back and reflect what the "futures" were that were displayed on the Eurocom site and then review what has actually been delivered; you might be suprised at how close Eurocom has been in thier "predictions". The "timelines for delivery" are often a bit off; however, the products are pretty much what was predicted. Latest example is the WSXGA+ screens for the 8790. I suspect that the WUXGA+ for the same unit will be available about the time that they predict and actually expect that the AMD configuration will be available later this year - provided that that AMD doesn't change the specs and delivery again.

I'm sorry if I sound a little bullheaded. I see an evolution in technology before that model ever reaches the market. Something like Intel finally jumping on the 64-bit bandwagon, or Clevo deciding to stay with Intel because of the dual core designs.

Only time will tell. Perhaps I should be a little more open-minded about it. I still see it not really happening soon.
I highly doubt Intel will release their 64 bit processor during the summer, around the time in which this supposed AMD Clevo notebook is supposed to be released.
Intel has scrapped plans to come out with a dual-core processor anytime soon.

As Colin noted, Intel is working on dual-processor chips but don't confuse those with 64-bit processors. They are still working on 32-bit but take advantage of slower clock frequencies for the same performance thus using less power and creating less heat. The studies show that the AMD 64-bit processors only have a marginally better performance in some high graphics intense benchmarks against thier P4 rivals. So what is all the big excitement? We don't have 64-bit programs, and the experts have even estimated that the performance increase with 64-bit programs wouldn't be noticed by some kid playing a 3d game or surfing the net...

you can actually configure one of the AMD clevo's on the eurocom site....and well...i'm floored by the price....i made one for about 1600 and i think that's supposed to be canadian currency right?
this is with a 17inch widescreen and an athlon 3000+ processor, 60 gig drive, etc.....
could something be wrong here? or will they really be this cheap!
hope this doesnt violate any runs...considering no one else is offering it anyways!

WOW, I just configured the AMD 3200 at under $2000 CAD. Only went for 256megs of ram (1 gig is +1300???!!!) What is $2000 CAD = in US currency? $1700? I doubt they will be this cheap when they reach Sager and PC Torque.
The currency conversion rate you are using may be incorrect. The Base CAD price was $2499 and that converts to about $1803.29 USD. The 60 gig drive (5,400) adds another $175CAD or $126.28USD and the (7,200) adds $325CAD or $234.52.

How did you ever get 1600? If you reduced the memory - Be Aware, that the adjustment numbers are bogus (because if you buy the basic configuration with 512 memory [2x256] the price would be $1279CAD or $922.93USD). We all would believe that price is way low -- especially considering that Eurocom is normally a bit more pricy than the other resellers of Clevos equipment.

uhhmm i dont really care that the amds are 64 bit or not, yeah the difference between a p4 and amd64 for gaming is only marginal, but the battery life of the amd blows the p4 out of the water.
U mean they run much hotter and require more electricity?? But wait until 64bit programmes come out, they should make a noticable difference.

And what about AMD 64 having 1600 MHZ FSB ?? how can that be ?? that is 2 times more than P4 800 MHz FSB....

I thought I read somewhere that the newer games are going to take a fairly large advantage with using a 64 bit proc. I know Far Cry is supposed to perform much better with the AMD.
