enquiry about repairing my laptop
Hey there,
My problem with my laptop (Acer Aspire 5920G) has something to do with he graphic card (Nvidia Geforce 8600 GS) which feezes the whole system and shuts it down. The cause for the problem is runing the takeownership software on system32 folder by accident, it was running on windows 7 professional 64bit at that time. Even restoring and a fresh windows 7, vista and ubuntu 10.10 installation could not resolve the problem, I tried them all individually. The problem can be seen from start of the computer (Acer start screen), so could the Bios or Graphic Bios(?Not sure if there is a separate one for the graphic card) be corupted? I tried flashing the bios which i downloaded from acer website but did have the permission do so even though being the admin and the only user on the system(on win 7 and win vista). How to solve the problem? Please help. Thank You!!

How long did you get the comp going before the system froze and shutting down on you? When was the last time you take the comp apart and perform internal cleaning with new thermal paste?

I had my laptop ever since January 2008. I never took my laptop apart too scared something might go wrong, as it is my one and only PC. It was running just fine before I ran that program.

Thanks for the quick replay.

It was pure coincidence I think for that app to cause the issue. We have good tips and some manuals here in the stickies. Take your time and you should have no issue when taking the comp apart and putting it back. You can post here for input should you have any queries as how to proceed next from the instruction.

What I would suggest, is go here find the 5920g..use a buddies computer with a printer and print off the disassembly instructions (with pictures) starting at about pg 53..and refer to them as you go along..once the system is cleaned/blown out and a new coating of thermal paste on the processor/heatsink...re-assemble in reverse order
