A laptop with these requirements?

Okay, Hey - this is my first post so yeah, thanks for having me :)

I joined so that I could ask some people more knowledgable than myself what the best laptop to get would be...

I would like a laptop with plenty of power as I will often be running multiple applications i.e. firefox + sony vegas..

Don't need an excessive amount of memory - 250 will probably suit me fine..

A fairly decent graphics card would be nice as I may do a bit of gaming occassionally (not sure, may start taking it up as a hobby)

A decent screen size 15+ inch and good resolution are important

and I wish I wasn't about to say this but style affects my decision (I wish it didn't!) so no uglies :)

Budget : around £500 to £900 (although I'd much rather keep it lower)

And also, how long till a laptop gets outdated?

Thanks guys! (If this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it, and also excuse my noobiness! :) )

If your doing movie editing you should have minimum 4 GB (I'm not sure what you mean by 250). There are TONS of laptops that fall into your price range and you can get more then 4GB of memory too. Sounds to me like style IS your number one factor.

Asus ,Sager, Toshiba, Sony and Acer are my favorite brand picks. If your a business guy, check out Asus, they have some nice wood-finished laptops.

Okay I'll rephrase myself, a laptop with atleast 250gb+ physical memory..

4GB (pref. 8..) RAM..

15+ (pref 17) inch screen with high resolution (full HD preferably)..

Good graphics card and thats about it really, anyone know of anything like this?

Also I'm willing to get RAM installed if needs be..

EDIT: I've just seen this - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/sony-vaio-vpcec4s0e-wi-white-laptop-08702395-pdt.html

Any comments on the value for money and other aspects?

Good price for value on that Sony. Should satisfy your needs.

Go for a Dell XPS 15 or 17.  Definitely best bang for your buck if you don't mind that it's a little bulky.  Best upgrade: 1080p screen for $150

I was thinking of buying a sony vaio, but went to see one and I found that the build quality was poor, and too plasticy in my opinion. I recommend you go to see one before you order.

It is always best to go to a store and feel the models out wink.gif Advert pics do not do justice unless you are a complete fan of certain brand

cheers ...
