HP Pavilion dv5135nr Screen Issue

I am trying to help a friend with his HP Pavilion dv5135nr.

When we power the laptop up the screen is gray and fuzzy looking. If you move it back and forward on the hinges it will flicker some.

Eventually, after bing powered on long enough, the screen will come up normal.

I did connect it to an external monitor and the monitor picture is perfect at all times.

I am guessing that the screen itself is bad OR perhaps the backlight is going?

Before I commit him to anything I was looking for input from those of you with more experience than myself when it comes to laptops (as opposed to me working mostly with desktops).

Thanks,

Chad

It sounds like a connection issue. I would try to disassemble the LCD to see if you can reach the connectors.

If it's a hardware problem, maybe the inverter is the issue. They're only $20.

Nothing loose except some dust - - - think I might give the inverter a shot.

Thanks!

Didnt know if the 5135 is different from the 5130...If basically the same, this could help:

the flickering sounds like a classic LCD cable issue which this model is common to have bad LCD cables... the only thing that concerns me is the "gray and fuzzy looking" display that sounds like a bad LCD. I would try a cable first and if that does not work change the LCD
