Acer Ferrari 3200

Three questions....

1. Does it void the warrenty if you want to replace the 4200 RPM HD?
2. Does it void the warrenty if you want to replace BOTH pieces of RAM?
3. Does this computer get very hot? Cnet says that the 3000 gets quite hot. Is this true with the Mobile 64 Bit?

thanks

For #1 and #2, if you even open up your case I'm pretty sure it voids the warranty. Better check some reviews for #3

I was so set on buying a ferrari until I read about the ram and hard drive issues... really is a shame to screw over an otherwise awesome laptop like that.

heh, how would they know if u opened it? stop crying already just keep the old parts just in case

theres a member review of the 3000 on the review/benchmark section

he said the left key rest area got very hot and it melted the AMD sticker

after a few weeks of use

thats a completely different processor though. Thats a AMD XP 2500 M. Does the 64 bit mobile run just as hot?

Ricewind, how is your Compal cl56? Is it worth getting over the Ferrari 3200? How stable is it?

thanks

according to gsferraris review
the heat was not coming from the cpu on th left side
it was the HD

yes everything is good with my machine... its so light, mobile, and quiet
yet at the same time it is good enuff to play the games i like

my only complait is it didnt have a sony xbrite or highgloss lcd screen and blue/black woulda looked better all silver or all black...

interms of stability im not sure wat u mean by that

ive never crashed or had any software or hardware problems

aside from the internal wifi card scking but that was a reseller issue not a manufacturer issue... i easily replaced it by doin the upgrade myself and it works just dandy

Is it sturdy. Like is it made of cheap plastic? Does it creak when you pick it up? Crack easily?

i dont know if its a better value/buy than th ferrari 3200 coz its not out yet and no review/benchmarks/comments about the actual unit

the base platform (key and bottom where everything is) is solid and study... its sturdier than the mitac 8335 i had coz it has a aluminum cage frame underneath it all (as opposed to the aluminum foil innard coverings of the mitac 8335)

so when u press down anywhere on it, it doesnt move :P

the LCD is kinda flimsly but i found that to be the case with all notebooks

its made out of some sort of plastic but i am uncertain coz im not familar with that...

its light only weighs 6 pounds

Under the left key rest area the harddisk is located. So not the processor gets warm there. This area is also very warm at Travelmate 8xx/8xxx series notebooks.

Yeah. I use an external keyboard because of that.

I don't think that opening your case will void the warranty. Any user servicable parts are generally considered fair game from a warranty point of view. As for heat, get over it, its not going to burn you, so stop whining.

you have to ask "how long was he running the computer for?"

If he as running a game for several hours (like 7 or 8) then it is quite possible that this could happen.

Any computer gets hot after extended periods of use (especially while running a game)

Yeah, if its the HD that was heating up then that's a known issue on ALL laptops. If you play for long periods of times on your laptop, it will heat up. I had same issue with Alienware laptop. Thats why they sell laptop cooling pads, to cool down ur laptop base. I'm sure its nothing to worry about, hard drives are same in all laptops.

thats wierd coz in my mitac8335 it ran at 50c

and now my compalcl56 runs at 40c

both were using the hitachi 60gig 7200rpm hd

i opened up both notebooks and the thermal design of the mitac was aluminum foil, while the compal had a full aluminumum cage
